Premier League Managers – What Football Coaching Skills Can We Learn From Them?

General Add comments

In this article, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting managers in the most popular football league in the world and ask ourselves, can we learn anything from their coaching methods?

Rafael Benitez

Current manager of Liverpool, Benitez favours an attacking style of play. He is known for using video analysis to teach his players and give them feedback after matches.

He also favours an aggressive rather than passive style of play and believes in peer pressure to get good results. He has a reputation for being “cold” and rarely praising his players in public. However, he shows no hesitation in criticizing the current club owners.

Sir Alex Ferguson

Ferguson is known the world over for his exploits with Manchester United. However, less well known is his incredible success with Aberdeen, taking a club composed mainly of locals to European glory. It is said that Ferguson’s greatest asset is in instilling desire in his players to succeed.

In terms of tactical awareness, Ferguson is lacking compared to other top flight managers. He prefers to rely on a good assistant manager with good tactical skills – such as in the past, Steve McLaren and Carlos Quieroz.

Arsene Wenger

Wenger is know for his ability to shrewdly identify and purchase an undervalued youngster and transform him into a top flight player and has rarely relied on a large transfer budget during his tenure at Arsenal.

He is known to be highly tactically astute and is said to spend many hours watching and analysing football videos.

Although suffering a dip in form since Chelsea’s surge of form in the Premier League, Wenger is respected for the successful transition from the “old” Arsenal team to the “new” Arsenal team – and most reckon they will be title contenders in the very near future, such is the quality of their highly attractive style.
